Baiting Ideas
It was as if all that was needed for her ideas
to dry up was realizing that she had to trap them. Ideas have since began to
play hide and seek with her. She has lost count of the many times she sat in
the ‘Thinking Chair’ without coming up with any useful idea. She spent many hours in the office even though
the lockdown was still in place. She was hoping that she would have ideas that will
move the business forward. With all the new regulations, business would never
be same again and if she does not move in line with the changes, she may lose
her business.
She sighed as she reflected on how much she had
put in already. She strongly believed she was in the centre of God’s will for
her life. So why is she confronting all these problems? Isn’t that the essence
of being in God’s will – that all problems will be eliminated? Wasn’t that what
it should be – God’s will equals no problem? After all, didn’t Psalm 37:4 say that He will grant us the desires of our
hearts if we do His will? She was doing God’s will, so why all these?
She thought ideas will flood into her mind as
they did before. She sat for hours in the chair, still nothing. She prayed and
quoted scriptures – nothing! She thought she would perhaps fall asleep in the
Thinking Chair and God will show her what to do in a dream. She has read and
heard that God speaks to people that way, and indeed He has, even to her in the
past. So, why not now?
The past one month has been pure torture for
her. She, who is a people’s person had becoming a recluse – hardly going out
but often indoors in the quietness of her room or office. The TV and radio were
things of the past and she had no idea what was going on in the world.
Rinnnnng, rinnnnng. The ringing phone shook her
from her thoughts. “Hello, hello, oh Toke. How are doing?”
“Hmmm, said the voice on the other side. Where
have you been?”
“Trying to trap ideas. And they seem so elusive.”
“So that’s why you’ve been so scarce? Did you get good ones?”
“Did you not hear me? I said elusive.”
“Maybe you are looking in the wrong places.”
“Wrong places, ke? I have been sitting down in
my Thinking Chair with my pencil in hand.”
“And of course, you thought that ideas were
locked up in a room. My dear, ideas roam free. That’s why you have to trap them.
“
“So where do I find them?”
“Everywhere and not only in your Thinking Chair.
When last did you listen to the news?”
“I have not had the time.”
“Really? And how do you expect to know what things
are going on around you? What is there to ginger and bring those ideas your
way?”
“Ok, I hear you"
“Let’s do lunch this weekend. Ideas will pop up
when we gist. Nothing draws ideas out like good company, and I dare say that I am one. And bring those
lovely magazines you subscribe to.”
“At my
place? “
“No way, my dear, we are eating out at La Prime
Cuisine.”
“Saturday, 4pm?”
“Excellent! I’ll see you then.”
“See you”.
As she hung up she saw the call at taken 15
minutes. But it was time well spent. Current affairs, good company, excellent magazines
and much more. Just one more thing to do – pray. God gives ideas and now that
she realises that they don’t just come in dreams and thinking chairs, she is
going to ask Him to direct her. Ideas roam free like in the wild, like fishes in the ocean and she was going to prepare the bait by praying.
Her phone beeped. Toke had sent her a link: https://www.nigerianbulletin.com/threads/how-to-build-your-future-with-ideas-%E2%80%93-sam-adeyemi.225479/
It’s been a long day.
